Meet brothers Spenser and Brycen Scofield.  Spencer collapsed April 1 at Butte Falls Elementary School where he was a sixth-grader.  He was found to have transverse myelitis, a neurological disorder caused by inflammation across the spinal cord. The nerve damage left Spencer paralyzed for weeks as he was treated at different medical centers in Portland.
Then, just a few weeks later, his 9-year-old brother Brycen was critically burned in an all terrain vehicle crash while he was riding to feed animals on the family's ranch in Butte Falls. He was in critical condition in a medically induced coma at the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
Both Spenser and Brycen have a long road to recovery. Spencer has permanent damage to his spinal cord and is still partially paralyzed from the chest down. In December he had spinal surgery and will likely  have more surgeries in the future. They also found he has spinal bifida oculta and a brain cyst that is monitored regularly.  Brycen still suffers headaches and pain all over his body along with a deviated septum and cyst in his sinuses that they plan on fixing surgically. His severe allergies are hard to treat as he is allergic to most medicines both for his allergies and for his pain. He struggles through the pain everyday.
Both boys are in physical therapy every week, seeing their local doctors at least once a month and travel to Portland regularly to see doctors and specialists.
This family’s past, present and future medical costs are astronomical and we want to help.
